Freehub magazine “within range”
Production
On a spring bike trip from Reno to Sedona with several stops in Nevada, I encountered pockets of pure mountain biking gold nestled within the barren terrain’s mountain fringes. I pitched the story to my team at Freehub Magazine and was quickly sent on my way to both write and produce “Within Range - Nevada Bright Prospects for Mountain Biking Gold.” As I began to interview the characters, align the riders and share shot lists with the photographers, what evolved was a story of impassioned individuals working selflessly to revitalize former mining communities through outdoor recreation and trailbuilding, with lifelong ranchers and freeride luminaries such as Cam Zink sharing the same objectives. Once the dust had settled on the production, I was rewarded with the issue’s cover story: photographer JP Preston’s amazing capture of what I had envisioned as the epitome pf progression: Cam with his kids and dog, enjoying our local park that he helped build.
